Heat pump installation and service in Yakima
New heat pumps, replacements and repairs from a certified Trane dealer and installer, with a free consultation and a quote we stick to.
Chapter 01
Short-cycling, cold air and ice that will not clear
A heat pump moves heat rather than making it, so when something is off you feel it quickly. The usual complaints in the Yakima Valley are a unit that starts and stops every few minutes, air from the registers that feels lukewarm in winter or barely cool in July, and an outdoor coil that stays iced over long after the defrost cycle should have cleared it. In a hard cold snap, the biggest tell is the auxiliary heat: if the backup strip is running nonstop, the heat pump is not carrying its share, and your electric bill will say so.
Behind those symptoms sit a short list of real causes. Low refrigerant from a slow leak, a failing capacitor or contactor, a dirty indoor coil or filter starving the system of air, a defrost board or sensor that has quit, or a unit that was simply too small or too big for the house from day one. Part of what we do on a service call is tell you which one it is, in plain words, before anyone talks about replacing anything.

How a heat pump install should go
We are a certified Trane dealer and installer and a Trane Comfort Specialist, so new heat pumps are Trane equipment matched to the home. That starts with the free consultation: we look at the house, the existing ductwork and what you want from the system, and you get a written quote. Our price quote guarantee means that if the actual cost ends up higher than estimated, we stick to the original quote.
The outdoor work is where installs are won or lost. The condenser goes on a level, solid concrete pad, high enough to keep it clear of snow and drainage, with the line set run and insulated cleanly back to the air handler. The photo above is one of ours: a new Trane condenser on a fresh pad against grey stucco, finished and ready to run.
Loren Queen, one of our verified Google reviewers, wrote that we "replaced my old heat pump and got it done fast considering it was the beginning of the hot season." Demand in the valley spikes the first week of real heat, so the best time to call about an aging unit is before it quits.
Chapter 03
Keeping a heat pump efficient year-round
A heat pump works twice a year, heating in winter and cooling in summer, so it earns its maintenance more than a furnace or an air conditioner alone. Ice & Fire Mechanical offers regular maintenance service agreements that keep your equipment running at its efficiency and output, extend its lifespan and mean fewer repair issues in the future.
Between visits, change the filter on schedule, keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, weeds and drifted snow, and never stack anything against it. When something sounds or smells different, call.
